Now Showing: Ken Masslon Press Release

Although Ken Masslon's background and career followed an analytical path, creativity was always part of his journey. Photography and technical theater were early passions, but it was a summer vacation on Monhegan Island, ME, that truly sparked his love for fine art. While his son took a drawing class, Ken picked up a sketchbook and started drawing alongside him. That simple moment led him to explore art more deeply, and before he knew it, it had taken over his life.

Ken primarily works in oil paint, both in the studio and en plein air, but he also loves experimenting with printmaking using gelatin, linoleum, and wood blocks. His palette is simple—just six colors and white—but within that limited range, he finds endless ways to express his personal color sense.

For Ken, painting is about connection. He believes you have to spend time with a subject to truly capture it, which is why he paints places that bring him joy. Monhegan Island, where this journey began, remains a major source of inspiration, but he also finds beauty in New England, California, and wherever else life takes him. He has participated in plein air events in Perkins Cove, ME, North Attleborough, MA, and Rockport, MA, and his work has been exhibited at Art Well, 5 Points Gallery, The Gallery on the Green in Canton, and the David Lussier Gallery.

Beyond painting, Ken has over 30 years of experience in technical theater, working on everything from set design to technical direction. He is also a proud co-founder of the New Hartford Artisans Guild, a space dedicated to bringing artists together to share, learn, and grow through exhibitions, classes, and retail opportunities.

Ken's work can be seen at The Investors Center at 70 East Main St in Avon from now through June and can be found at KenMasslon.com and the New Hartford Artisans Guild.
