Now Showing at The Investors Center Gallery: Marc Rifkin

Marc Rifkin is an artist known for his dynamic use of both soft pastels and acrylics. His vibrant pastel landscapes capture the essence of New England and other locations he has lived in or visited, while his bold and colorful acrylic paintings often explore intuitive and abstract themes.

In 2022, Rifkin was the Artist-in-Residence at the Farmington Valley Arts Center in Avon, CT. His work has been juried into many exhibitions, including those at the Connecticut Pastel Society, Lyme Art Association, Central Massachusetts Pastel Society, Pastel Society of Maine, Rhode Island Watercolor Society, West Hartford Art League, Pastel Society of Alaska, Cape Cod Cultural Center, among others. He currently resides in Connecticut with his wife and daughter.

“People ask which is harder – painting a landscape or painting an abstract and are often surprised by my answer. When I paint a landscape, I have a built-in reference or starting point – trees, clouds, water, a mountain range, or a path through the woods. Whether I’m working on site or from a photo, I can form a mental picture of where I want the painting to go. But painting an abstract/intuitive piece is different. There is neither a plan nor an idea of what the final product will look like.” – Marc Rifkin
